  Once again, Indianapolis Professional Photographers' Guild is proud to coordinate and help administer the 2026 Indiana State Fair Photography Competition. This will be our fifthteenth year! We encourage all Indiana photographers to participate. Each year has been a resounding success and we are looking forward to another group of very talented photographers, both amateur and professional, student and adult, to participate in displaying their photography skills.

  Curious about using film in 2026? Come join us at Roberts Camera in Indianapolis to hear about the major formats, popular cameras, and what it takes to develop and digitize negatives at home - and why they unlock looks unachievable in digital-only workflows.

  Lifelong Hoosier artist and Sales Manager at Roberts Camera, Nick Henry, will break down the still vibrant film formats and the cameras which use them from the ubiquitous to the esoteric. He'll cover contemporary chemistry and equipment for the kitchen sink developer as well as the equipment for digitizing those negatives at home. Examples of lensing and traditional frame sizes will show the unique effects the savvy photographer can use to set their work apart.

  Handouts to include breakdowns of cost per roll when bulk-loading vs buying pro packs and developing at home vs dropping off at the lab. With up-to-date costs per roll and current lab turnaround times you'll be ready to practice and improve your craft under the unique constraints of burning silver. 

  Working with traditional formats doesn't mean leaving behind advanced technology - previewing the frame using a digital camera, syncing contemporary lights, and otherwise using the advantages of digital for a hybrid workflow.

  The Magic of SnapSeed for iPhone and Android

  Longtime IPPG member Rad Drew returns on October 6 for a live exploration of one of his favorite mobile editing apps: SnapSeed.

  SnapSeed, originally designed by the creators of beloved Nik desktop software has been around for well over a decade. During the past year and a half, it has undergone some of the most extensive changes in its history. The updated app includes a redesigned interface, new adjustments and editing options, and advanced masking capabilities that make it possible to work more selectively and precisely than ever before.

  During this live presentation, Rad will process a variety of RAW, color, and infrared images while demonstrating how he uses SnapSeed’s tools to shape tone and color, create composites, enhance detail, correct perspective, create expressive effects, and apply adjustments to specific areas of an image.

  
  

  With the release of Version 4 in May 2026, the iPhone and Android versions of SnapSeed are now remarkably similar, making it easier for photographers on either platform to follow along and use the same techniques. Whether you are opening SnapSeed for the first time or rediscovering an app you have used for years, this presentation will help you understand what the newest version can do — and how to put its creative power to work in your own photography.

  
  

  Rad is a teacher, photographer, speaker, and tour leader Rad creates with the iPhone, mirrorless, and infrared cameras. He is especially recognized for his expertise in mobile photography, developed over more than 16 years since purchasing his first iPhone — an iPhone 4 — in 2010.

  Rad teaches photography workshops and leads photographic tours throughout the United States and internationally. He is a frequent presenter for photography conferences, educational organizations, and camera clubs around the world, and is the creator of the popular How I Did It!™ webinar and presentation series.

  

  His creative images have received international recognition and have been exhibited at venues including SOHO Gallery and SOHO Arthouse in New York City, the L.A. Mobile Arts Festival, and Obscura Gallery in Melbourne, Australia. He was listed in the Photographic Society of America’s Who’s Who in Photography in 2018, and his work has appeared on multiple PSA Journal covers.

  Rad is a former associate editor for the late Indianapolis photographer Kevin Raber’s PhotoPXL.com and writes about photography, mobile image-making, apps, and creative techniques for PSA Journal, The Royal Photographic Society, TheAppWhisperer, and the online photographer’s resource Luminous Landscape.
